The History of Hotel Bergwirt
The building permission for the residence on the corner of Montecuccoli Square was granted by the Viennese authorities in 1911, and nine large apartments were built inside the Jugendstil style building. A year later, the Gasthaus zum Bergwirt began to function on the ground floor, renting out rooms for day-trippers near the Elisabethallee on the Küniglberg. In 1959, Monika and Franz Grauer leased the Gasthaus and eventually purchased it in 1968. A coffee house and a "Stüberl" were added during the following decade, and in 1978, the house was converted into a 24-room hotel. In 1987, the Elisabeth Salon was constructed in the basement, providing a great location for weddings and family re-unions (capacity: 90 persons).
